Disclaimer: Everything on this list is //MY// personal opinion. I am just a consumer and I am not educated in cinematography, photography, videography, music, all that jazz that require one to be a proper critique. This list is based on my personal aesthetic, whatever I think looks good or visually pleasing. This list does not reflect my view on the song/artist/album, purely the video. There are songs in this list that I don't like but I just think the video is just really, really pretty.
This list is also based on the release date. So, from January to December.
Spring Day by BTS the instagram filter we all need
Y'all this is the instagram filter aesthetic we all dream of. Also, the MV has a deep meaning and a lot of references to books, current events, movies, and arts. I am really into things like that.
Palette by IU I can definitely see a trend.
This video is simple and sweet and minimalist. By this time of the year, I can starting to see that this kind of vibe is starting to become mainstream. This mv was not the first video that went with this kind of vibe but it sure set a lot of aesthetics of MVs and songs this year. This video is very sweet and simple, I love it.
365 Fresh by Triple H I really like the colors in this video
I just really like the colors in this video. It's kind of old school-y. I like it!
Shangri-La by VIXX this is a work of art.
Look, you don't understand. There are no words enough to describe how much of a masterpiece this video is. The wardrobe. The sets. The colors. The choreography. This video is a work of art, you can fight me on this.
Singing in the Rain by LOONA's JinSoul this has that neon light, almost riverdale-ish set
This is just so pretty? Like? The colors? The lights?? The fishes? And how they make the girl as the blue betta fish? YAS.
Ko Ko Bop by EXO it's so colorful and trippy
Baekhyun's mullet and Jongin's cornrow are not something I endorse but I really like the whole acid trip happening in this mv.
Gashina by Sunmi anthem of the year
Look, this song and this video is the queen. The goddess. The supreme overlord of KPOP in 2017. I like the quirky, relatable girl vibe Sunmi has in this video. The anthem of all anthem. Everyone and their neighbor's grandma are dancing to this song. Think of this as the super leveled up Despacito and even better. Because our president Sunmi is giving all the girls and the gays what they want. Despacito is Walmart brand and Gashina is Prada.
Peek A Boo by Red Velvet I love dark videos y'all
I really like videos with dark concepts. I've loved Russian Roulette because it's just cute but at the same time, it's pretty dark (the girls tried to kill each other in that). In this video, they play as witches/vampires/immortals that kill delivery boys. A beautiful concept. I love it.
You In Me by KARD I really like the dark vibe they go with in this
This video is my aesthetic. The video has a storyline it depicts toxic relationship and all that jazz; it's ugly and gritty. I love how the light changes color according to the beats? I just think it is a very nice touch. AND THAT PLOT TWIST THOUGH OMG. When this video was released, I just couldn't stop talking about the plot twist and the way they portray the said plot twist.
Honorable Mentions
- MOVE by Taemin (Dance Practice)
how can I not include this? I never liked the MV that much, I seriously think that the choreography should be highlighted more. The choreography is sensual and just so gorgeous it's like the high fashion of choreography - Gashina by Sunmi (Part Switch) - Inkigayo.
Live performance of the year y'all, Miss Sunmi delivers. For some reason, I couldn't find the official version from official Inkigayo channel but look it up! - Check out Taemin and Sunmi's collab in MAMA. Giving all the gays what they want.
- GCF in Tokyo
this is technically a vlog but this was the vlog that made the whole fandom freaked out. Even I, who wasn't that deep in the fandom at that time, freaked the heckity heck outFanservice aside, I actually think that this is a very pretty vlog with a pretty transitions. Those click-baiting, below average Youtube vloggers are shaking.
